tyre recommendation

Hi,

I need to get some new tyres for my car but not sure what brand to get. Are all tyres the same?

Well im a bit confused as currently I have a set of Pirelli on my car and just wondered what other brands are just as good and not so dear. I'm willing to pay up to �50 per tyre but not sure how much they actually cost.

Also do I go to an independent dealer or go to places like Vauxhall master care or kwik fit?

You state Vauxhall Master in your question so I will presume that the car is a Vauxhall if this is the case it is possible to ask them for a quote, I would not go to Kwik Fit (personal choice) why not get the measurements off the side of the tyre and feed them into google and see what comes up, if you stick to Pirelli, Michelin, etc you cant go wrong BUT there are also some other very good middle priced tyres on the market so do not be put off, I went to a Vauxhall Dealership and they placed an unknown brand to me on the car and assured me that this was a tyre made by one of the top tyre makers, it done me well at a resonable price, I was only looking at this site yesterday it may help you, check it out.

Hi i prefer michellin and the cheapest place for those is costco, you will need to get a card though (�20), you will get this back on the tyrs. Best yet, they have a 20% reduction now if you buy 4 tyers.

Michellin are expensive but hard compound and a good all rounder.

Pirelli use a softer compound, better grip but you dont get as many miles out of them.

Depends on the type of driver you are and what car you have. Some cars are greedy on the car, excessive braking and cornering will chew through a soft compound in no time.

I tend to stick with a local independant who will always advise based on your driving and vehicle.

My dad would tell me to cut the crap and just go for Michellin every time! LOL

blackcircles.com and etyres.co.uk will give you a fully fitted price that will be cheaper than the high street chains or atleast a similar price but for a better tyre. Unless you are a very enthusiastic driver I wouldn't worry too much about whether they are Pirellis or michellins etc. Having said that it isn't worth saving a couple of pounds buying the absolute cheapest.

Event mobile tyres are very competative. Someone posted the link above. Costco were charging �135 each for Michelins, but event mobile fitted Contisports for �100 (or �105??) each. A better tyre, and they came and did it when I was at work.

Guess if you're looking at �50 a tyre, your car doesn't have low profile (destroy the rim on the curb) tyres, but I guess the principle is the same.

I wouldn't skimp on tyres - they are the only contact with the road!
