Where does the answer bank stand on liable?
Can we or can we not liable someone on this website. I would (and i'm sure others would) like to know if we can say whatever we like or if we have to be slightly carefull when talking about rumours.
Thanks for your time. Toddle pip.

Lankeela's definitions of 'slander' and 'libel' may well be correct in common parlance but the law is different. A verbal defamatory statement can breach the law of libel if it is 'published'. (e.g. defamation via a radio programme constitutes libel, even if it is not written down).
As far as AB is concerned, anyone making a defamatory statement about another person renders themself liable to a civil action in the courts. (In certain circumstances criminal law may also apply). The site owners could only be successfully sued (or, in criminal cases, convicted) if they failed to remove the offending post as soon as they became aware of it.
