so now they want to raise the revenue on alcohol because that will stop binge drinking. they also want to triple the parking charges on gas guzzling vehicles because that will lower emissions. if your car is parked you aint putting out no emissions. they want to raise the tax on flying because that will also lower emissions. do they think they can deprive us of our well earned holiday? raising the tax on fags did not stop everyone smoking, and they know this. they dont care about us, all this global warming crap is just to make them look like they are doing something, when in fact all they really are doing is trying to raise billions more pounds to compensate for money spent on war and benefits. i think this country is in trouble but they will never admit that, as long as they are all lining their own pockets they dont give a monkeys. i dont see blair stop flying because of the damage to the ozone, do you? i think they are just looking for more ways of getting more money out of us. so someone please tell me how it works.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.my question is, how does it work. ie. if you raise the tax on booze it stops binge drinking, how does that work? if you raise the parking charge on gas guzzling vehicles that somehow is going to lower emissions, how does that work? if you raise the tax on flights that also is going to reduce emissions, how does that work? i posted this in how does it work, so i guess that was totally wrong, who cares, i didnt realise you were in the correct posting police force norm, so what section would you have chosen oh perfect one?
noticed how mps' are dropping the political correctness stance lately, eg openly talking about immigration etc,. when a few months ago they would have been terrified of being denounced as racist. Their biggest fear is being voted out of office, thereby losing all the benefits of being an MP, the exes that go with it, just look at the list that's just been published!
Things they come out with...tax everything to solve the problem, knowing it will not make one iota difference, global warming is the classic case.....I read somewhere that if the UK INCREASED its' carbon emissions by 1000% that it would make absolutely no difference to climate change. I'm open to correction on this, but my point is, will taxing my rubbish bin every two weeks save the planet?
Tomtech, I'm with you all the way.

Obviosly you are right , Tommy Boy. It's the same here in the States too. But, then, why worry? At the rate we're using up resources, poluting the enviroment, and drugging ourselves into oblivion, how long can it be before our species is extinct and the real supreior species takes over?

you are so right, even when you stamp on the little mothers they still run away. are you really posting from the us of a? anyways, we will all be dead and gone when the sh*t hits the fan. i dont think there is too much we can do about it all because we will never know the complete truth. as long as politicians are having a whale of a time living off of our taxes. what do they actually do that raises revenue? as far as i can see nothing. they live off of money generated by taxing everything.in a way they are claiming benefits.they dont actually go out and do a productive days work do they? or am i missing something? and anyway edlee, im more concerned that one day the sun is going to burn out, so i think that all those greedy people that sunbathe should pay loads more tax than those of us that dont. because according to the way the government thinks, this will prevent the sun burning out?what do you think?
Obviously, of the 'voluntary' taxes (in that you don't HAVE to buy/do/have the thing that is taxed) the best things to tax are the things that people will continue to buy/do/have. This means they get the maximum revenue raised. Even better is something that is addictive EG fags, booze, gambling. I'm really surprised they haven't legalised and taxed drugs - it'd raise a fortune.
Taxing something like egg slicers isn't going to raise much tax, as people just wouldn't buy them.
You have to accept that governements don't really believe you should have any money of your own, as you wouldn't spend it 'properly'.
