why are you getting a mortgage with an ex anyway?
you will probably have ccj's against you in your absence, and these will show up on a credit search, which will cetainly be undertaken when applying for a mortgage

i think the cut off is 7 years, BUT thats if the debt stays with the original debtor, if it gets sold to anyone else, they keep it for 7 years, and it gets passed from place to place and gets bigger and bigger,
how much did you owe when you started running from it? over 2 years thats
12 x 3 x 2 which is 72 missed payments, @ 30 a time for missing the payments, and once you are in arrears, another 30 a month for breaking contract, plus 150 each time they are sold, on top of whatever you already owed,
probably an extra 2 or 3 thousand on top of what you thought you owed, plus ccjs and possible bankrupcy proprosals.. the debt collectors simply put you down as "gone away" from the addresses you had, and once you go for any credit whatsoever you will be found,
if you have a bank account they can trace you
