Cant download programmes

Could anyone help, I have attempted to download an anti virus programme from download.com and nothing happens. It appears to be downloading but then I cant find same on my desktop. I feel I have the wrong security or other settings in place. Could anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks

Any programme that I try to download from the internet basically. It goes through the motions of downloading, but then fails to install same
