i thought the kids would enjoy making these for bommy night. Do we have to cook the sausages first? Do we need to put anything between the pig and it's blanket?

make them will cold cooked sausages and i put a layer of mustard between the blanket and the pig, but your kids might not like that.
I don't cook the sausages first, just wrap the bacon around, place on a baking tray, cook in a low oven (about 120 degrees) for 45 mins to an hour, turning once, half way through. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get too crispy. I like to use chipolatas and streaky, smoked bacon.

thanks for your answers, I was on the wrong track completely - I thought they were wrapped in puff pastry!!

You weren't on the wrong track crisgal, as there are many variations of this recipe - and wrapping little cocktail sausages in pastry is just one of them. Here is a shortened version from Nigella Lawson.

375g sr flour, 25g grated red leicester cheese, 250ml full fat milk, 3 tablsp vegetable oil, 1 egg, 1 packet 50 cocktail sausages (or however many you have - leave out cheese if you wish)

Make the dough, then roll into a rectangle. Cut into approx 4cm strips, then cut into 6cm intervals. Take a sausage and put at one end of an oblong at a slight diagonal and then roll up, pressing on the dough - place on baking sheet. Carry on till finished. Brush with beaten egg. place in oven at 220c or Gas 7 for 12 - 15 minutes.

When my 30 something boys were little, they used to call them 'pigs willies'. Don't ask me why.

Gracious pamnez, at first I thought you said you had 30 boys!!!

surely wrapped in pastry is a sausage roll!
