Trusting people to do work in your house

I need a joiner, plumber and plasterer to do some work in my house but how do I know which companies/workers to trust? Is there a site that gives feedback about companies/workmen in my area?

Why don'y you ask friends and relatives who they use, allways better to find tradesmen by word of mouth, most of us are honest you know,very few are in the building trade to con or rob you.

to be honest.................. i am a fencing contractor ,and a very good one,we have been offered by loads of "fair trade" companies who say that they will advertise to the public and gaurentee a 1st class tradesman and not a cowboy!! i asked if they come out and see our work and to my horror they said "no"!!! so all the cowboys could join and you would be non the wiser!!!!
