BofB was mostly shot near why I live, just outside St Albans: the towns were constructed on the old Hatfield aerodrome (thats now being built into a business park), some scenes were shot on the old railway line (now a footpath)that went from Luton to Hatfield (you can walk that and see the bridge where in the beginning they shot up a horse & cart of Germans a short walk from Wheathampstead), and scenes were shot in/around the nearby village of Smallford (see the credits at the end).

. The snow was artificial, and these scenes were shot on a sound stage.
