internet connection dropping in the evening
5 Answers
I have broadband and recently every evening, after 6pm approx, my internet connection drops. I can reconnect but it drops again and carries on doing so throughout the evening until its impossible to use the internet. It works perfectly throughout the day. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

there are a few possible reasons - firstly I would phone your ISP and get them to do a line test
one reason would be congestion on the network, but there are plenty of others - how long has this been happening (ever since you had BB or just recently), has it coincided with anything else eg central heating timer going on.
Is your modem near any other electro magnetic devices (EMI) that could be causing interference?
Do you use a wired or wireless connection?
For starters, I would do a FULL power cycle - switch off your PC, then unplug yout modem(complete power off), leave for approx 5mins, switch your pc back on, wait until desktop is fully loaded, then reconnect your modem, give it a few mins then try again.

My ISP told me that when it got busy on an evening they share the avaolable resources between those on the same connection at the exchange. however, if they think that you are abusing the "unlimited" useage policy by downloading consistently then you are put to the back of the resources queue. When I argued that I don't download music or videos etc. and only use broadband for email and sat tacking they said.."not according to our records" So it doesn't matter what you do with your connection, they won't believe you if you tell them otherwise. I'm on Toucan by the way which is Tiscali by another name.
