Which was the first London Underground line?

I think the first section was called the metropolitan railway and now forms part of the Hammersmith and City line.

The Metropolitan Railway from Paddington via King's Cross to Faringdon built in the 1860's. Not to be confused with the present Metropolitan Line which follows part of the route then branches north at Baker Street.

However, the East London line has older tunnels, built in 1843 but not laid with track until 1869
