Motorola V3 phone

I have just switched on my phone and I have a message saying "invalid battery".I cannot find what this means in the handbooks.Any help please ?

guy on this site with same probs, he suggests leaving it to run down completely and then recharging it, cleared his, dunno if that helps :o)
