This is driving me crazy. I am told there is a unique link between the words Television and Hippopotamus. I can't for the life of me work out what it is and my torturer will not give any clues as to what type of link it is other then it is unique in the English language.

Can anyone help?

Both words have both Latin and Greek elements in their etymology. Don't know if that's the answer your torturer is looking for, but it's the only link I can think of.
I'd go along with that.
erm well I thought of that, but they dont.....

tele far - Gk
vision from video Latin I see

but but but

hippos - Gk horse - the latin would be equus
potamos - Gk, river the Latin would be flumen

so it were hippoflumen or equopotamus, he would have a point, but it dont

Thanks guys but I don't think it's related to the Greek / Latin origin due that being also true of many other words. Any other thoughts?
Perhaps the Hippopotamus song "Mud, mud, glorious mud" has something to do with it.
