For past week I have been receiving a lot of hard porn links in my email box (no, don't know why) I keep doing the 'unsubscribe' link and it seems to go through, but it keeps coming. On one or two of them when I hit the 'unsubscribe' button, it says my email address is incorrect and gives me an email link to send them to stop it. How can I stop it coming?

Hi rabbits, I have heard that the more you unsubscibe from these sites, the more spam you will receive, because this lets spammers know that your account is active.

The best way out of it might be to open another account, i know it might be a pain but it will be worth it in the long run.

partyanimal is right - if you open these emails it just confirms that your email address exists and you will get more and more .
Do you have your spam filters set to the correct level? Most email programs these days offer you a 'safe' list and everything else goes to the junk mail box where it can just be deleted.
You will never be able to stop spam entirely but that's the reason for the junk filters and the junkmail box. it's so you don't have to open them.

Don't ever open them, transfer them to your junk box. With hotmail, you can report them too.

spam usually just gets sent out by robots, which simply invent addresses - what do they care if the addresses don't exist, costs them nothing. But when you reply - even if it's just unsubscribing - it lets them know they've found someone who does exist. So just delete. If you've got hotmail or gmail or doubtless some other providers, you can report the senders. The whole thing is kind of inexplicable - I get 1 or 2 spams a week on my hotmail but a friend who has a name about as uncommon as mine gets dozens, which drives her crazy. I'm not sure if having a new address will help though, since the robots may be just as likely to stumble upon them.

You might want to try a program like MailWasher, which allows you to view all of our mail in a text only format (many spam emails contain links to graphics and when you download them, again, it knows that the account is active) and then add them to a safe list or delete them and all before you download them.

You can also mimic a bounce - which makes it look to the sender as though the account doesn't exist (however, since most accounts sending spam aren't real, this isn't normally that great).

What you can also do is set MailWasher to use SpamCop, a global anti-spam organisation. Every email is checked against a database of known spam emails and can be automatically marked by the program as spam. If you get a spam email that has never been seen by MailWasher before, you can submit it so other people get it marked for them automatically.

You can do bulk deletes of spam with a single button and it saves a lot of time. There's other programs that do much the same thing.
