I don't think it was "The Threepenny Opera" - this was based on English poet and author John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera" and written by Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht - both German but 19th/20th Century not 18th/19th Century
And I don't think there is any French connection with "The Threepenny Opera" or "The Beggar's Opera"
