Could be The Cone Gatherers by Robert Jenkin
Set during the war on an estate in Scotland. The two brothers have to work in the woods ..the younger one is a hunchback ....not 100% certain but it's the only one I can think of.

Sorry ..you want characters ..Calum is the younger brother ..the hunchback and Duror the older brother.
