Hi pauline ..have just read this and pleased to hear you are happy with the books you bought .Bradfords is a life saver for cryptics and good old Chambers gives good definitions .There is a list of Chambers humorous definitons such as ..
Jaywalker ..a careless pedestrian whom motorists are expected to avoid running down.....and the famous..
Eclair ...a cake, long in shape but short in duration and the even funnier
Mullet.... a hairstyle that is short at the front, long at the back, and ridiculous all round.

Thanks...enjoyed the definitions! Yes..what a fool I was..put dish out of oven, away from where anyone might touch it, removed oven gloves and picked it up myself!!!

i have often done this..got something out the oven with the gloves and then tried to take the lid off with my bare hand !!

Sorry BabsG..only just logged on. When I had some book tokens given me for my birthday, I asked which books for the crosswords anyone could recommend. Chambers full edition for a dictionary was highly recommended by several people which I purchased. Shaneystar also recommended Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary...by Anne Bradford. It is published by Collins
I bought it and it is excellent. I think it cost me �11.99. Hope this helps.

Morning Ladies! Yes, cover price of Bradford's is �11.99
but bought mine earlier this year for �8.97 from . . . wait for it, my local Tesco Superstore! Online price is �8.39 plus pp.

Morning Johnalex...would go on line to buy or the supermarkets myself..only I had vouchers to use. Got the 6th edition myself. You really do need to shop around don't you?

Yes, you're absolutely right Pauline. It's really uncanny - I'd not heard of Bradford's either until Crofter recommended it. Then I happened to walk into Tesco, not actually to look for the book but there it was near the magazine display (but not for long!). ☺

Bradfords also does a Crosswords Lists which is excellent ..similar to Chambers Lists . You can never have enough of these books and although I have Chambers Lists the Bradfords Lists is on my Christmas List !!!
