I've spent a great deal of time in my favourite bar in Oostende (the 'Melrose') trying to perfect my Flemish. The landlord and landlady both pronounce the name as 'Hoyeegardn' but with the 'hoyee' part almost being rolled up into a single syllable. (My omission of the 'e' in the 'garden' part of the name isn't a typo. It's my attempt to illustrate the way the name is pronounced).
In UK bars I've tried to use the Flemish pronunciation of the name but I usually just get odd looks. (Or maybe I just get odd looks in bars anyway?). Even the anglicised 'who-garden', suggested by the website, doesn't seem to be understood. Most bar staff seem to call it 'Hoe-garden'.
