Sarahs Law..
28 Answers
What are your views on this? For those who don't know what it is, it's basically a law which will bring in the right for people to go and see a list of convicted Peaodophiles (sp) in their area.
here's the website which explains it a bit better..

are you for or against it?

1. We can't trust the public with this information for fear of reprisals and mob mentality
2. The vast majority of sexual abuse cases are within the family. The idea of the predatory paedophile grabbing children off the street, whilst horrific, is very rare.
3. Are we allowing you to know the wherabouts of anyone on the sexual offenders register? How about a young man who has slept with a 15 yr old girl? I don't think there would be any way of distinguishing between them.
4. People released from prison have served their sentence, and have served their punishment. They should not have to have their past crimes forcibly advertised to the public. (I believe in harsher sentencing and in no way suggest a soft touch approach).
We need an upheaval of the monitoring situation and a review of sentancing, but I don't think that Sarah's law would benefit the public in any way.

That's a more realistic possibility than I think you realise admarlow.
More sophisticated that the big pair of scissors I suspect you envisage.
There was a trial in Denmark 21 sex offenders agreed to castration as a parole condition - two of whom reoffended sexually subsequently.
In a similar control set 8 re-offended sexually.
It's certainly a possibility

There was a story recently of the inmates of a prison holding down and tattooing 'katies revenge' onto the head of a child rapist and murderer.
the trouble with this is, has has been mentioned, people forming lynch mobs etc
- many will have heard of the guy who put up a gold plaque outside his office with 'paediatrician' on it - and he was hounded and abused etc etc quite badly.
the woman who was abused and beated because someone decided she looked a bit like maxine carr. she bore such little resemblance that it was a laughable accusation - but loads of people in her area were whipped up into a frenzy about it
same thing has happened with young men who bear a vague resemblance to what people thing the killers of james bulger may look like now!
I read of a guy who had the same name as someone in the paper who had been accused and his life was made a misery by people who ' just assumed'.
I personally have a friend whose life has been made a misery because he has the same name and is a similar age as a bloke who has been convicted - he has had to return to his parents home and has changed his name - he has had a breakdown and suffers terribly with depression.
- this is the mentality and stupidity of many, many people - how can we expect idiots like that to act accordingly when they have access to this information?
and what about the 17 year old with a 15 year old girlfriend? he wouldn't be a target, but anyone else who lived at the same address would be a target - his dad, brother, granddad etc
I have no sympathy with real child molesters etc and would like to see their foreheads branded with a cattle iron, but its the innocents whose lives can get ruined by misinformation and public stupidity
it can happen to any one of us - females included!
