Hey folks, this is a strange idea so please don't laugh!

This christmas I want to get a very special friend of mine a unique present, I want to write a story and then make it into a little hardback book.

Im not after multi-million pound graphics or a 1000 page novel, just a few little pages with a short dedication verse at the front. Does anyone know of a company who could mount it into a hardback if I supplied all of the literature etc?

Strange, I know! Thanks folks.

Great idea, probably hard to make happen at reasonable cost. Suggest getting hold of Yellow pages and searching out old-style bookbinders - small firms. They might do it for you as a one-off. Books become very cost-effective in large volume print runs, because the production cost is tiny per book, but the one-off set-up cost is very high.
Following on from buildersmate's idea, I did a quick google search for "gift bookbinders" and found these websites that do what you want -

Blisset's of London
http://www.blissetts.com/service.asp?CatID=6&s erviceID=47

Salisbury Bookbinders of St Clear, near Carmarthen
http://www.salisburybookbinders.co.uk/gifts.ht ml

Designer Bookbinders, London
http://www.designerbookbinders.org.uk/commissi oning.html

Contrado's, London
http://www.bagsoflove.co.uk/company/inhouse.as px

If none of these are convenient for you to get to, I suggest you go to
http://www.yell.co.uk
put in "bookbinders" and your local area, and search.
i think it's a lovely idea.
i don't know if this would help, but the great little trading company do something for children to make their own book. I don't see why an adult couldn't do it though. And it's only 12.
www.gltc.co.uk and type in G7022 in the search box.
