is there way of loading windows 98 second edition from the c d on top 98 1st edition. I get the message "you require the up grade only" and stops the loading process. I was thinking maybe booting up with a start up disc and deleting some windows files v i a D O S so that the 2nd edition does not detect the loaded windows Thanks cyrilbiker

Can i ask why you would want to do that? and not say backup the contents of your hard drive onto another medium and then wipe your hard drive and install win98 SE with the boot disk?

Boot from the Win 98 startup diskette, at the DOS prompt go to C:\windows and rename win.com to win.old. Run the Windows 98 setup and ensure the directory you use is C:\windows rather than C:\windows.000. This will overinstall Windows 98 using the full OEM disc rather than the upgrade disc.
