Our Ka does not seem to be warming up, and now its getting cold outside, this is a bit of a problem.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be. Could it be the heater matrix?

Any suggestions as to difficulty (if I can do it myself!)/ cost (if I cannot do it myself!!!)/ time (not including time to fix my first mistakes if I bodge your first suggestions!!!!!!) to fix whatever you suggest it may be?

Cheers

Fiestas are fitted with a heater control valve - it wouldn't surprise me if they are fitted to the Ka also - not expensive and easy enough to replace.
Most likely that it is faulty if fitted.

woodchopper is exactly right, the ka is fitted with the same heater control valve as the fiesta. It costs around 40 from ford or 10 from a breakers (if you can find a breakers with any left !) It takes half an hour max (dead easy) but you must ensure the serial number begins with the same four figures 96fw or 98fu - otherwise your car will overheat, the number is printed on the valve body, wich is located near the wiper motor at the centre of the bulkhead onder the bonnet.
