Why is everyone always kicking lumps out of Mike Mepham? I thought the Telegraph Crossword Editor was a woman and Mepham was the sudoku czar. Would someone please enlighten me?

For example, today, the capital of East Java is Surabaya and he has the old spelling Soerabaja without saying that it is the old or alternative spelling.
Whilst it is true that we are on occasions critical of MM, mainly for reasons as stated by Argee2 above, I consider it is by far the best GK crossword available in a daily national newspaper, and Saturdays would be less interesting without this weekly challenge.
Whilst there have been numerous criticisms in recent times, I feel certain that most of us still look forward to tackling this puzzle each week.

There have been a lot of hiccups recently with the DT but you can't always lay the blame at his door .It's a fault with the printers sometimes and quite often editorial policy although he could make it clearer with some clues ...but after all said and done ....he submits the work ....they print it.
