Can anyone please advise as to where someone
( an adult - living in the B20 Birmingham area ) with spelling difficulty can receive assistance / lessons / tutoring ?

The person's reading ability is not too bad , however the written word is really bad .

She tried night school some years ago , but she says that she had real difficulty in learning anything
I am unsure as to what teaching techniques was used in the classes

There must be specialists some where out there from whom she can receive some help

Any suggestions please ?

Thanks

There are adult education classes all over the place. I teach adults and I think that one of the biggest isues is confidence, if she could just sit down and read something with someone who will help her sound out words this heelp her tremendously.

I wonder if she has ever been tested for a learning difficulty?

BBC has an excellent section on its website, SKILLSWISE that I use a lot with my students.

There are also excellent resourses available in book shops, she would need E1 or E2 level. Stress the importance of getting the foundations correct so that she can build upon them.

Hope the above is of use.

Thank you sdmj

How would she go about getting tested for a learning difficulty ?
Also, are the E1 and E2 , instruction books for self teaching ?
Just been sent a poster from Skillswise, they are promoting a no:

08000 150 950

which one can apparently call to see if there is a class near them. It is almost routine when signing up for courses to be screened for a learning difficulty.

Most books are self explanatory, set a target of a page a day etc.
