Anothe vote for The Night Before Christmas. It is by Clement Clarke Moore.....my mother bless her heart still phones me on Christmas Eve wherever we both are and reads it to me.....and we both get weedy!!! Oh and by the way, I am 34 years old with 2 childrenof my own!!!!
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse....
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
...
and so it goes on....I love it....a gorgeous gift to last a lifetime and be passed on and on.
Another one that we liked particularly last year was Poppy Cat's Christmas by Lara Jones
