Attacked
I was verbally and physically attacked whilst in a busy shopping area in Cardiff. The person who attacked me, is apparently on medication. As I said he verbally attacked me after realising that me smiling at him in passing was not a come on! He was shouting at the the top of his voice "F OFF, F OFF, F OFF" over and over and over again. He shoved me and briefly tried to push my 2 year old into the (very busy) road. I called the police while all this was happenning, but good samaritans came to my aid before they did (there was a police station literally accross the road). About a week aftet this incindent, I saw him again, this time I was with my fiance, and he decided not to approach me, but threw punches in the air, and drew a line accross his throat with a finger. This was all at a distance though. I contacted the police and they expect me to go to the police station to make a statement again. Shouldn't they be coming to me??? I have since been notified that I do not need to give evidence in court, I do not even know if charges are being brought as he is mental. The police actually told me that the day he attacked me he hadn't taken his medication... I feel let down by the police and social services, I cannot go shopping on my own anymore, I am a stay at home Mum and feel like I have to stay in the house when I can't get an escort for fear of seeing him again. Does anyone know where I can take this? I spoke to a solicitor but they told me I should go back to the police (who are useless). Any advice greatly received.

Also, I forgot to add that he broke a policewoman's arm as they were trying to get him off a bus that he boarded before they came to help, so they should be persuing something don't you think? What annoys me the most is that he attacked me and my 2 year old, then a police officer, they know that he was making violent gestures and still he is drinking in the same pub, and catching the same bus... why is he allowed to live his life how he likes when I don't feel safe going to the flippin shops! And we come come back to the same old thing... Why do offenders get the protection of the law, and victims get to take their chances?
You say the police are useless, yet don't provide a statement. Statements are used as evidence, without evidence there can be no prosecution.
The police have probably asked you to go to the station as a last resort. They probably would come to you to obtain the statement, however, I dare say policing is an extremely busy occupation.
Make an appointment, go along, make an official complaint and provide a statement. The police can hardly do anything about this without your help.
However, due to your lack of commitment in following the complaint up, you may have become an unreliable witness in the eyes of the police.

Dinger, I have made a statement already, the day it all happenned, I have not as yet made another statement about the time he was throwing punches and drawing a line across his neck. I agree that the police are busy - busy releasing mental people into the community who physically and verbally attack young mothers and their very young children. I don't know why so many of you are treating me like I have done something wrong, I hate to say it but I hope a 17 stone, 6 foot nutter attacks some of you, then come back with your attitude problems. I'm sorry that I even bothered asking for advice. For those of you who haven't been like that, thanks for the advice and understanding.
