pidgeons

how can i stop pidgeons coming on the bird table and pinching all the food that i put out for finches, blue tits, etc. wouldn't mind as much if they were wood pidgeons but they aren't, they are just common pidgeons. anyone got any ideas please.

I'm not sure that you can, not from a table, but you can put nut and seed feeders up, plus fat balls,the pigeons won't take those.

Just a suggestion, but there are others on here that may come up with something else, although i'm happy to see even pigeons eat the food I put out.

Hi...short answer ..... you can't! As above, I feed the smaller garden birds from hanging nut holders or upside down coconut shells etc .....then put bread etc in another part of the garden for the larger birds [and squirrels]. There are always birds in my garden, I love to see them all, big or small.

hi. i do have feeders etc, but they take niger seed, sunflower hearts etc.... it then becomes quite expensive.. i didn't think there would be much i could do.. thanks anyway xx

Get some 2" wirenetting and mould it into a sort of a dome that fits over your bird table. That should stop the pigeons and is no barrier to the smaller birds. You can chuck the food for the pigeons on the ground.

Hi Julia,

Easy, put a cover over your bird table, that will keep the pidgeons away.

When a pidgeon takes off it rises vertically, if it cannot do this it will not land in an area with an overhead obstruction.
