put my key in ignition and it made a 'bing' noise and a flashing spanner appeared on the dash. cant find it anywhere in the handbook. anyone know what it means?

It means a service is due. (The spanner is a bit of a clue).

in my car there is usually a spanner behind the steering wheel!! it doesn't flash though. well, not normally!

thought it might be a service. not due one yet tho. just bought the car from a vw place where they just serviced it. its beginning to annoy me so might have to get it sorted anyhow. thanks people
