I'm really struggling to get into the fire service. I have mastered everything else, the ladder climb, the rat run, the ladder pull, and hose running etc, but i cannot, for the life of me, master the bleep test (shuttle run). Can someone PLEASE help me with some advice on how to beat this. I've tried everything.
Try the local police recruitment trainers they are usually very helpful and will generally know the local gyms who run fitness programs designed to pass thier tests.
I assume the bleep test is similar or identical to both services.
when you're called to a fire things have to be done quickly or else people can suffer ,even die.
i am presuming you 're young , in your twenties. if you cant do the beep test now when you are at your best then how will you be in a job when lives are at stake?
maybe you should think again.
(sorry if i seem nasty, i dont mean to be, but your ambition should not come before the reality of life)
the fire brigade should take the best available and not a politically correct quota.
im sorry if ive hurt your feelings but i do feel strongly about quota politics.
in some ways i hope my post made you think!
since you're not in your 20's the fitness situation is not going to get any better (you must be pretty good now to even get close)
that said, i do wish you good luck and hope you make it.
my moan is with the politics, not someone who tries hard to reach their goal
You didn't hurt my feelings at all. Wouldn't be trying for this if that upset me. That said, I'm just wishing I had the go and the person to kick my butt round the shuttle run.
