Burlesque/fifties/retro hairstyles

Im really interested in learning how to do the clessic hairlstyles of the fifties, perhaps with a modern twist. Does anyone know of any good websites/books etc that can show me some tips and tricks, or perhaps for jsut hairstyling in general.

Im also trying to find out what products are used, as stars such as Dita Von Teese and Gwen stefani always seem to have perfectly set hair which looks completely natural, and yet when I do my own hair I have to use so much hairspray my hair looks plastic!! Can anyone help?

Dita von teese has a book which is out to buy, maybe she put some tips in there? worth a try i guess.
