hi, does anybody know who the nigerian embassy would class as suitable for signing copy passports/birth certificates that need certifying as true copies. I know a GP can sign an original UK passport application but Im not sure if the Nigerian embassy would accept a doctors signature and credentials as suitable person to verify that a copy is true. thanks

When official bodies require a 'certified copy' of something, they usually require that the 'certification' is done by a solicitor or a notary public. The signature of other legal professionals, such as legal executive or a commissioner for oaths, might also be acceptable.

Because your question is probably subject to Nigerian law, rather than that of the UK, the only way to get a definitive answer would seem to be to ask the Nigerian High Commission:

putting it plain and simple,i would think that their rules are more or less the same as our rules regarding it.
