Do you mean percentage wise, Dom, in proportion to the population or actual hard figures, because obviously if you live in a city with a million inhabitants and 100,000 of them get killed, then it's still a lower crime rate than if you live in one of the Midsomer Villages where there are 87 residents, 40 of which have been killed in last three years and sadly none of them is that irritating police inspector.?
actual hard figures nox. This was a bet with a dublin lad who said that he knows on authority there are more homicides in dublin than in London. I contested this as i reckon London is larger and has more population than Dublin. He still said that irrespective of size and population, Dublin has more killings than London. now what his source was i dont know but i just cant find the figures anywhere.
Disappointing to see belfast so high up the ranking, but I wonder what the current figure is now that we have 'peace' and I use that term rather loosely, given that these figures are from either 1994-96 or 1995-97. What would also be interesting to know is the percentage of homicides in Belfast if you could eliminate the sectarian ones? That said, even the sectarian ones often relate to gang warfare and drug wars which are prevalent in any large city.
