How the hell do you stop this from feeling like you are peeing razor blades? I have just finished the last sachet of cystopurin and I don't feel it has made the slightest bit of difference.

It'll still be uncomfortable for a while, because obviously you'll be going to the loo more often, but it'll become gradually better. Also, I have heard that drinking lots of cranberry juice helps. Hope you feel better soon, that's very uncomfortable.
it sounds like you need some anti bs, however, as the others have said cranberry juice is the only way along with litres and litres of water as this dilutes the infection and helps pass it.
I drink cranberry squash as you can drink more fluid this way, however, you can also purchase cranberry capsules from the health food shop and if you are prone to cystitis this helps keep it away by taking a few every day.
If you have a fever though, or begin to pass blood, you should go immediately to the docs as it could actually be a kidney infection rather than just a water infection especially if you also have back ache. keep an eye on it
Another pain relief tip is pee into a bowl of water, this helps the pain as it keeps the pee diluted, never tried this as couldn't work out how to without running a bath every 5 minutes, but if you have a bidet, you could try this if the pain is really bad.
hope you feel better soon.

My dr told me that any kind of liquid will do the same job as cranberry juice (apart from alcohol which will make it worse) and that cranberry juice isn't actually any better than water at getting rid of the infection, so just drink water or diluted juice or whatever you like!
Those sachets from the chemist never do any good for me, get yourself a dr appointment and get some anti biotics, they'll relieve the symptoms within a day and have it all cleared up within a week

try the pessaries(?) from over the counter. Canesten does one for about a tenner, easy to use and far more effective than the powders! Fluids, as everybody advices, but dont leave it ! Kidney and urine infections are hideous! You'll end up on antin biotics and wont be able to drink....over xmas?? What a thought!! x
i had this just once (and once was enough) my Doctor - who was a very old man - told me to drink 2 pints of lemon barley water a day and no tea or coffee or any liquid apart from lemon barley water. The lemon (he said) would flush my system clean and the barley was to stop my stomach shrinking like a prune with all the lemon juice. It really worked after a few days and I was back to normal. The only thing that I can not face anymore is lemon barley water but I got better so quickly without the need for antibiotics.
