Pay the arrears.

Although lapsed security measures seem to be practised by the store, there are criminal offences committed by your son so the county courts seem better then the local nick or magistrates, don't they?

Obtaining property (the actual card) by deception and obtaining further services (or property) by anything spent on the card could hold 7 years inside.

Also, all the goods ourchased on the card may have to handed back as well as the arrears. The company can actually order this. If the purchased goods are given away, the new "owners" could also be handling stolen goods.

Give your son a good hiding and make him work extra hard to pay it back.

The worse thing you can do is back him up because you may be the one with CCJ's against you. Bang goes special mortgage rates, bang goes any car credit, credit card and bang goes setting up any form of self employment.

Silly, silly boy.
get him to pay the bills
As wardy says, the best thing he can do is pay it off and close the account before they find out and he gets prosecuted for fraud/deception/obtaining goods by deception and probably one or two other offences.
