ive taken too many today..

what do they actually tdo anyway?

ive got a hole in my tooth, and its hurting,

if i take 4 nurafen in one go it gets rid of the pain for a few hours...

why dont 2 work like it says on the box?

they probably will work, they just take a little while to get to the pain, you must make sure u dont exceed the dose though or you might get addicted, it has happened before to many people.

whether they work or not over doing the stated dose is not a good idea you can seriously damage you body,remember parasetamol over dosing can damage the liver and other organs,parasetamol is in nurafen.try oil of cloves that works.
tooth ache is a right btch but take care with the tabs ok

you should be ok but make sure you eat something before nurafen - can play havoc with your stomach lining.
Guidelines state 2 every so many hours but you can take double dose. You must not exceed the number of tablets recommended per 24 hours though ( usually 8) . Oh and don't take all 8 at once - that's not good either !

Nurofen belongs to a group of drugs called non steroidal anti inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs). As the name suggests they reduce inflammation. Taking double the amount does not double the amount of inflammatory response.
Paracetamol and opiod based painkillers such as codeine send signals to the brain blocking the pain receptors.
In my personal experience it is better to take pain killers on a regular basis ensuring you are always getting relief.
Might I suggest taking 2 x Nurofen, then 4 hours later taking 2 x paracetamol based relief, and repeating this cycle.

My advice is kinda similar to squsalminney's... the best dental pain remedy I know of is to take 400mg ibuprofen (the gel capsules work much faster than the tablets) then in 3 hours take a painkiller which is a combination of paracetamol and dihydracodeine (you can get this in most chemists)... alternate between ibuprofen and the other two every 3 hours and you should be fine.

Make sure you have something to eat (if your mouth's really sore have a wee bit of soup or something easy to eat) so your stomach doesn't get upset - taking ibuprofen, etc when hungry isn't the best idea.

your on the wrong tablets, most tablets which stop nerve pain or anything to do with teeth are normal prescribed by the doctor. normal if you take too many all your physically doing is making yourself more drowsy, you should try to stick within your doses. or go to the doctors and ask for kapake that the maximum does of codine you can take.

actually, these tablets you are taking are more closely related to acetametophine. which is tylenol. and might i suggest not listening to anyone but your primary care doctor, about dosaging, or combinations of medications. its a valiant effort to help, but only your doctor knows the potential risks of other medications you might be on that would normally contraindicate usage of other meds. and these other people offering suggestions have no clue about your past medical history.and as far as doubling up on the dosage, not wise. it is given as a recommendation from the manufacture for a reason. just because it says take no more than 8 in 12 hours doesn't mean take 8 at once for a 12 hour period.

also, your using the wrong medication for that application or purpose. thats why it's not working.
