Help with deisel engine.
22 Answers
I don't know anything about deisel engines and my daughter has just a bought a car with a deisel engine.
Can you tell me the best way to start the car? Do you pump the accelerator or not when starting the engine? Do you pump the accelerator before starting? Is it possible to bump start a deisel engine? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I have been driving for sixty years.
( from the days when you had to double-de-clutch when changing gear ). And for the past fifty five years I have held an all groups licence. This includes tracked vehicles and motor cycles.
The only vehicles not covered being, an invalid carriage or a steam roller.
That being said, I uphold your right to pontificate on matters mechanical, but please don't condemn comments by myself and others as. AND I QUOTE. "$hite".
Anyway, You can keep your Porsche, On my pension I couldn't afford the insurance.
( Should this have gone to the slagging off thread )?
Returning to the original query from 10ClarionSt, If you need to bump, ( or tow start ) a diesel, engage second gear, Trying it in first will cause your wheels to skid.

Could somebody please contact Les Brown, Senior Observer with the Swindon & District Group of Advanced Motorists (IAM Group No. 1060) and tell him that he is not "a good driver" and is advising actions that are not "the correct thing to do" in his article covering cockpit drill...
