Ipswich turning bad?
39 Answers
What a horrible week its been here, three prostitutes getting murdered, one person dead from a gun shot wound in a nightclub, three others shot and one stabbed. I had to go to my local sorting office today to get a recorded delivery and saw the copper standing outside of the nightclub in question and it had all the 'police' tape around it, sent chills down my spine! All in the matter of two odd weeks, whats going on!!!

It's not just Ipswich, This weekend I was due to met some friends for lunch, couldn't actually get to the pub we were meeting in as a 42 year old man had been kicked in the head to death outdside it, by a gang of teenagers, right outside a police station!! Just today a body of a man has been found in a park in Oxfordshire under odd circumstances.
It's all tragic.

Nothing we say can in anyway alter the fact that such crimes as these are horrible & cowardly, and here comes a BUT.
Speaking generally though, prostitutes are also committing a crime if not more than one crime.
On the media, they seem to shy away from the word prostitute or common prostitute as they were once called.
Now in this PC world we all live in, they call them working girls, who are working in the sex industry, (which in itself an insult to all decent working girl) No matter in what fancy words one wraps it up in, it is still a disgusting crime, selling ones body.
There is also talk about feeling sorry, for the sorry lives they lead, excuse me but in most incidences they are not forced into this trade, they are in it for the money, whether for sheer greed or to feed a drug habit (and whos fault is that)?
The Police ask them to keep off the streets, in the present dangerous situation, but should not the Police arrest them if they find them on the streets? These women are most likley obtaining state benefits whilst also conducting their illicit trade, isn't this also not a crime? There are many law abiding women that have to live on benefits and perhaps also hold down a little part time job, but if their money goes over a certain limit the benefit agencies soon crack down on them, (Benefit fraud is a crime says the TV advert).
I know that it is not in the best of taste to approach this topic in the circumstances, and I opologise for that, but I just think that while this subject is topical, these matters should be open for disscusion.

I dont feel sorry for them for the lives they lead at all. I have many ex friends that have turned to drugs and not giving a flying fish about their family or what they put their family through. But its a horrible thing to happen to anyone, and it is not their fault that this has happened. No-one deserves that.
For some of them, I have a degree of sympathy - often forced into by boyfriends or gangs who act as their pimps and too scared for themselves, or worse, their children, to get away. That sort of fear is a terribly debilitating thing. Some have mental health problems too, and fall in that gap in our society between able to get the necessary help and not needing help. However, prostitution, per se, is not a crime. Soliciting and loitering for the purposes of prostitution are - but they are punishable only by a level 2 fine. Kerb crawling is also a crime. The worst penalties are reserved for trafficking for prostitution, exploitation of prostitution and coercing women into prostitution - all of which are designed to protect vulnerable women and children from the people who make the real money. Now those ARE disgusting crimes.
And yes, some do choose it as a way out to fund their habit and yes, it IS their fault - they only have themselves to blame. But it's still a pretty desperate place to be in to think the only way to survive is to sell your body. Unfortunately, humans are careless with their own lives and we are not all blessed with the good sense to stay away from drugs, drink and bad company. Just because they are not blameless, does not mean that there should be no sympathy.
Isn't it equally disgusting to pay for these services? If there was no demand, there would be no need for supply. Do these men happen to be driving by the red light area in the middle of the night, see a girl and think "hey that's a good idea, I fancy a quick one and I happen to have a spare 50 quid and a condom". Or do they go out looking? Ordinary market forces prevail here. No demand = no supply.
Incidentally, the police (as I understand) have issued an amnesty to the girls in Ipswich in the hope of their cooperation to find this nutter. I consider this entirely the right move under the circumstances and good luck to all of

Apparently it may be a spree killer as opposed to a serial killer, according to the paper today anyway. I remember back in 1999 a girl was found murdered in Creeting St. Peter, she came from Felixstowe not far from Ipswich, her name was Vicky Hall and she was found naked, in a river, although she wasn't a prostitute so I wonder if the police have thought they might possibly be linked.

Just because you've commit a crime it doesn't mean that you forfeit your rights as a human being. I don't see that anyone 'asks' for this kind of treatment. There is nothing wrong with feeling compassion for someone, no matter who they are. Without people to give a damn about the desperation of other people's lives, we would be in a sorry state as a species. Everyone has the right to ask for help... even the guilty.
as i said on another thread - he may be targetting prostitiutes for no other reason than it is easier to get a prostitute to quietly accompany you to a dodgy back alley in the middle of the night.
most women would not do that without a fight.
it could also be a woman for that reason too - there would be less need for physical force - just give a swig of drugged vodka or a quick slash with a blade - whatever
but no-one acknowledged it, and i actually think people want to think he is targetting prostitutes because he has some twisted hatred for them, or wants to copy jack and yorkie. it easier to think that
there was no sexual element to these crimes so doesn't fit in with JTR's MO.
if i decided to kill 5 random people for no reason - i would kill 5 prostitutes for exactly those reasons.

Well ~ all I can say is that I'm glad I don't live in Ipswich any longer. To call it a sleepy market town is complete rubbish. It wasn't even like that 15 years ago when I lived there. There were fights on a saturday at Portman Road (the home of the football club) the East Anglian (newspaper) offices were robbed twice in quick succession, the area near the buttermarket was renowned as a 'gay' haunt, Christchurch Park was a no-go area after dark and you had to be mad to go anywhere near the river by yourself.
I used to live in a village called Witnesham, about five miles from Ipswich, and that was close enough!!

It's definitely not a spleey market town. Crime here has been on the rise for ages and I know of several previous murder cases here. Only three weeks ago my next door neighbour got two of her windows broken by some kids (just glad they didn't touch mine!). The amount of attacks that have happened round the corner from me near my local pub are unbelieveable.
