i know theirs an xmas section but prefered posting on here.
Parents at a primary school in Birmingham are up in arms after a teacher told children that ''Old grey beard'' dosen't exist.
My question is, when is the right time to tell children this, or would you just let them find out for themselves, the impression i get these days are that children are aware FC dosen't exist from an early age.

Was Teach a naughty boy then in not getting into the xmas spirit, or do you think he was right.

Ps, i don't know what age group the children were by the way

Can't say at what age it's right for them to know, it differs from child to child. I personally believe the longer they hold onto this belief the better, it's really sad when the 'magic' disappears.

I also personally believe that it wasn't the teachers place to tell the children this, I'd be furious if this happened to my kid.
I dont think that its fair to tell them that FC doesnt exist. I worked it out for myself at about 9 or 10. Kids arent silly, they realise themselves but i think its nice to keep the joy they have in believing in santa for as long as possible rather than tell them.
really dont santa exist .im 35 i thought he was real my parents must lie 2 me still lol
Admittedly it's probably not in the spirit of Christmas, but ultimately it is a fact that he doesn't exist so should a teacher be promoting untruths? As a parent you surely understand that it's only a matter of time before the kids get wise to the Argos catalogue, with the current state of schools it's reassuring to know that the little ones have learnt something this week!
i woald also be disgusted if my kids teachers spoilt the myth!!!
My son is 7 and he totally believes in Father Christmas. If any teacher told him otherwise I would go mad as it is up to me to tell him that sort of thing. Christmas is magical for children so what;s the harm in them believing in Santa for a few years? Life gets tough enough as adults so let's all make their childhood as much fun as possible.
All my kids believed in FC and it used to be magical when they used to put out a mince pie and a carrot for the Rudolph. FC used to get a glass of whisky but my other half saw that off when the kids had gone to bed. We left them to figure out for theirselves as to wether FC really exsisted or not. That teacher should have had his mouth sellotaped, bit late now though.
I don't think it's the teachers place to tell the children. I don't remember anyone telling me Santa didn't exist..I think it was just something I worked out for myself as I got older.

Maybe children should be left to it themselves...why cause them hurt??.

My children are 16, 14, 9 & 5 and I haven't told any of them that Santa doesn't exist. As far as I know the older ones came to the conclusion that Santa stopped giving to children 'of a certain age' as there are so many to give to ~ I think deep down they still believe in him :o)

I had a big row with my sister in law and her husband about this a few years ago as they were telling my two eldest that Santa was fake (they are Evangelists). My sister in law thought it wrong that I lied to my kids ~ I didn't see it as lying at all as I pointed out to them that a form of Santa has existed in the past..they just aren't around anymore..much like Jesus ;o)
lol pippa, great comeback, hope it shut her up :)
LOL...it did red, but not for long! as you can imagine she was quite offended.

Serves her right for offending me, eh? ;o)
