well said Pinus....I almost laughed at the question. yeah K.forrest, it's homosexulaity that's causing a decline in the population, of course it is!!! Sorry, but that's dumb-a$$ association to make. My Gran adn Grandpa are each from families of 7 children. My Mum had two kids....I'm hoping to have 2 or 3. That's not in ANY way related to homosexuality (or indeed religious decline, as NONE of my family, even going way back, were religious to any degree at all). It's due to social and economic factors..... modern lifestyle choices, opportunities for working women, massively high house prices, women waiting till later in life to have babies.....you see where I'm going with this?

i understand what you say about religeon i am personaly a taoist. but if people are born homosexual does this start to pose a threat to our population and is it in fact a genetic problem that needs reserched or is it just a perversion that people like to brag about a sort of sixties style rebelion.

I'm not suree there is a 'cause' as such - although the debate about genetics has gone on for some considerable time. Sam172 appears to side with the argument that homosexuality is a moral choice, which I personally do not feel is believeable, but i would concur with pinus' point that homosexuality is certainly enjoying greater tolerance and awareness levels than ever before, which can only be for the benefit of society as a whole. The moral high ground is a crowded place, I personally feel unempoowered to comment on the lifestyles of others. To answer the Question directly, I think the answer is 'perhaps'.

I suppose if you folowed your theory through about more homosexuals leading to a population drop either people would rejoice that this over crowded world is getting a break or cloning would be used. you can actually have a baby without having sex with a woman these days, and just cos your gay deosn't mean you don't want kids.

Hello again k. My post was being written as jills' response, and yours to her landed on the Site. If I may presume, I think pinus meant the adjective 'single' to mean not married, as opposed to not attatched. It does seem that you feel there is a 'reason' for homosexuality, but as i said, I honestly don't think there is. I wonder if your use of the word 'sodomy' infers that you are really not happy with the notion of same sex relationships? Anyway, fear not, as long as a minimum of 50.000000001% of the world population remain heterosexual, the human race is in no danger of extinction - at least not from this source. Maybe you should just accept that this concept is here to stay, and don't concern yourself unduly.

true, may not be a moral chocie as such...what I meant by the decline in Christianity is that the bible preaches that being gay is wrong and evil. Maybe in the past more poeple tried to stifle their feelings for another person of the same sex. I did overlook the part about it just becoming more apparant however. It may indeed not be any higher than it used to be, just more noticable. *side note*-wow k.forrest, I only know one other person who is taoist. It's good to see that specific religion is still alive to some degree :-)

this question was not set to denounce homosexuality, just to try to find out what causes it. does anyone know if any reserch has been done to discover what turns people or do we just say oh thats ok you've been represed for so many years we understand. do things like oestrogen levels in the water actually have such a great effect on our sperm as to be mutating our sperm and turning our baby boys into confused little girls. hormonal, genetical or is it just a perversion like s+m or whatever tickles your fancy. thats fine i hope it is a perversion. but if it is something going wrong with our geneology then i for one would like to see all this money for cloning projects put into discovering what is causing the mutations that are already happening and not creating more problems for future generations.

There was a survey a few years ago which found that if one brother is gay, then there is an 11% chance that his brother is gay; a 22% chance that his fraternal twin brother is gay, and a 54% chance that his identical twin brother is gay. So I reckon it's about half genetic and half environmental. The environmental influences are probably mostly before birth or in the first few years of life; I am not aware of any evidence of there being any "rising amount".

I assume, k.forrest that you are hetrosexual? To talk about fellow human beings, who had had utterly no choice in their sexuality, as the "effect causing the population decline" is just little disrespectful. Also, all males have oestrogen in their blood stream throughout their lives, irrespective of their sexuality. The hormone oestrogen does not last very long, before it simply disintergrates. The only reason it remains is because the body keeps it topped up. Oestrogen would not survive water treatment facilities in the UK, and even if it did, it would have no affect on the sexuality of a developing baby. Sexuality, as far as we know, is decided at the point of contraception, giving the grown adult no choice. I understand you were not out to denounce homosexuality, but to pose the question is a little unfair. Homosexuality and hetrosexuality both exist, and therefor should be treated equally. just becase Hetrosexuality covers the majority of the population does not mean you can talk of other sexualities in such a way. But if i have failed to enlighten you, just stop drinking tap water, and let the 'population decline' continue in the knowlege you wont turn gay because your drinking Evian.

eh aye ok adison you never get told about the birds n bees. brightonguy i hope you dont wrk for the NHS or water board, although naturaly produced oestrogen stays in the male body in a tiny quantity oestrogen from hrt and the contraceptive pill pass through and guess where they go straight into the recycled water suply. no the water treatment, if you can call putting potentialy lethal chemicals into dirty water, doesn't destroy them. hence why we have a drop in sperm counts by 20% a rise in testicular cancer by 80%, male fish are being born with female organs and grown men are developing mamory glands. ye great could save a fortune if you fancy a sex change. does anyone know if any reserch has been done on the affects of this on our development. girls please use a johnny i aint wanting a hermaphrodite baby not till its old enough to decide.
