Removing stain in marble

I have an old marble fireplace that has a large disfiguring brown stain within it. I have tried bleach, ammonia etc with no success. Any ideas as to how it can be leached out. Many thanks.

Have you tried white vinegar? the cleaners on the tv show "how clean is your house" use it for all kinds of stains might be worth a try.
