for the first time ever im not sending xmas cards but giving the money to charity, but ive received some lovely cards and now feel a bit guilty.should i ?
Almost all the money spent on Christmas cards is a waste of money.
We are only encouraged to do it by the card shops and the post office.
If everyone did as you did it would raise millions for charity and be a far better symbol of Christmas than a load of christmas cards that will be thrown away a week or so after Xmas.
We are all doing this at work - it's a great idea! I bought a cheap box of charity cards (50 for 1.23 from tesco!!) and sent them so at least i wouldn't feel guilty, and with them being charity cards i get to donate to them too - as well as our sponsored charity (which is the Special Care Baby Unit at the local hospital). Spread a little bit of Christmas cheer to everyone that way!!
;-p
dont feel guilty, feel pleased that youre helping others.
Obviously buy cards for close relatives but prehaps email those that you dont send to and just make a point of telling them what you have done.
A friend of mine emails everyone and asks what theyd like, she can donate to 1 of 3 charities or send you a card. Given the choice i always choose the charity option.
I haven't sent Christmas cards for years. Like you I feel guilty when I receive some but I soon get over it. I much prefer to send money to charity especially the one that sends terminally ill children on a holiday of a lifetime.
I give the money to charity, but email my friends and family to say Merry Christmas and explain, and I also post the link to the site that I am donating to.
At my mum's work they decide upon a charity and anybody who wants to donate instead of send cards can sign the white board with the Christmas message and put money in the money box, which is then counted up in the New Year and donated.
Have your Christmas cards and enjoy them crete and then if you wish, donate money for your favourite charity during the year.
I know they appreciate any help, but it is a year round thing, and not just at Christmas.
thanks everyone for replies, my chosen charity will be womens aid ,red if i dont send a card to 4get will she shout at me ? seeing as we are such good friends, :)
I always think that a card means that someone is thinking of you, your not forgotten, and thats nice, but giving your money to charity is a nice gesture also.
