i pod shuffle (the old ones)

You know how one of your ear phones stop working or the wire rips or someing well in May I bought one of the above and it stopped working a few monts later so it was replaced, well now the replacement has stopped working but the ear phones from the first one are fine. What does this say about the i pod eh?
