Many believers - of all religions - are more open minded and take books such as the bible, Torah and Koran as guidance and stories that illustrate a philosophy as opposed to a true and accurate account.
I do not believe that it is hypocrisy to believe in God and evolution although my personal beief is that religion is an excuse for fighting and a comforter to those who have difficulty believing that we are here by chance.

There is no conflict in believing in God and the scientific explanation of creation. God gave man a need and desire to understand his world and where he came from. When the Bible was written man did not have the acumen or capasity to understand the concepts inherant in the scientific explanation, so God gave him an alternative that was both understandable and believable, for him, at the time. As we have gained in knowledge and inteligence he has allowed us to discover more and more about our world and the universe, and there is still a lot more that we have yet to learn, when we are ready.
Obviously god still hasn't seen fit to give the capasity(sic) or inherant(sic) ability to certain subjects to spell very well either.....I could eat alphabetti speghetti and defecate a more coherant arguement than some I have heard on this topic.
God doesn't exist....we're nothing more than evolving monkeys who have progressed from using sticks and stone to using more complex tools and have found more about how the stuff around us works...we will continue to do so.
It might interest you to read Darwin's 'Origin of Species'. In his introduction he admits that science explains HOW the universe and nature work, not WHY. I personally believe that life forms eveolved, but that it wasn't just chance. It was MEANT to happen. I'm not alone, either. So it's not just a case of narrow-mindedly believing in either one thing or the other.
