" From today we vwill be running a straight general knowledge crossword with no linked clues. We apologise for this, but it is due to the sad and untimely death last week of our compiler, Michael Mepham, who will be missed by us all."
Regrettably this will also mean the end of our Herculis links game, that so many of us enjoyed.
I will e-mail crofter who will undoubtedly issue a suitable message on the main links thread.
Many thanks to all who have taken part and offered vigorous repartee and ingenuity with your predictions.
Is it perhaps fitting that we never did " break the code" of MM and come up with the so elusive 4-timer!?
I said in the link reporting MM death that weekends will not be the same, guess I was right. A|gree with sarumite that it is fitting we never broke the code to get all 4
RIP MM

Perhaps, as the Links brought so many of us pleasure, ABers in contact with the DT could let them know how popular the Links were .... and, a reason to buy Monday Telegraph!
Such a shame, I am going to miss this little (or not so little) game. Thanks to sarumite and crofter and also to ShamrockBlue for starting the game in the first place.
Not only did I have all four correct but was due 4 bonus points for being the first with my answers - its not fair that my genius should go unrecognised!!
More seriously I will join any petition to restore the Links competiion, and want to add my thanks to crofter, sarumite and, of course, ShamrockBlue for their ingenuity and hard work.
I was very disappointed not to see the Herculis this morning. What I can't understand though is that if they printed Saturday's they must have also had MM's Herculis puzzle that goes with it. So why not print it too as a final farewell to MM?
I too, although a very late starter, will miss the game and I'm sure I too would have had 4/4 this week!!!
Further to my last post I've just spoken to DT enquiring about Herculis. MM would send the Herculis over to the paper at a different time to the DT one, usually Fri afternoon/Saturday morning. As he died Friday lunchtime they had not received it and couldn't trace it either, hence the lack of it today.
I must express my thanks also to Crofter, ShamrockBlue and Sarumite....will miss the banter and challenge this weekly diversion created. Even my hubby took an interest in it, and indeed guessed the last links...will never know now how he did.
What a shame....sudden end of a game that was destined to carry on for a long time I think!
As I have said already on the site to which Crofter refers, I share in all of the sentiments expressed, but cheer up everybody - we have a new game - it is called "Guess where to send the Monday crossword that replaces Herculis-with-links".
