It's only a disgrace if the repeats are rubbish or if they are unwelcome. Some you welcome like an old friend. It's hard to imagine Christmas without The Great Escape or Moreccambe & Wise, for instance.
got to agree with marwell, i'm quite happy with repeats as long as its something I love....Only Fools & Horses for example.

Do we know what 'blockbuster' films are on yet?
I will not be watching hardly any tv over Xmas so it does n`t bother me if repeats are on. Actualy, if they are putting on repeats what`s so different to the rest of the year??
Is that just the 5 "main" channels, or all channels.

If it is just the 5 "main" channels then I bet the repeat figure, if you include programs early in the morning, or through the night, is probably about 60% anyway.

If it is ALL channels then 60% is probably about normal, maybe even lower than normal.

Some channels on Sky ONLY show repeats, like UK Gold and its variants.

Anyway, if the repeats include quality TV like Planet Earth or Blue Planet or Coast then who can complain.

Its only a problem if it is Only Fools and Horses AGAIN.
Christmas telly was always a lot of repeats and some bad programmes . But there was also the skimming through the Radio and TV Times when it came out , to dig out the gems over the Christmas period before the days of Cable, Sky , Dvd's and Video's that made it a special time and things were an event.
Nowdays even the "blockbusters " get shown all year round and it's not an event anymore which is a shame in some respects .
But as you say 60% repeats is a bit rich!!!!

Well said about Only Fools and Horses, vehelpfulguy,Must have seen repeats of that over 100 times on Terrestial TV and UK Gold.
the films for this year.. i think are as follows: Pirates of the carribbean, Monsters Inc, 5 children & IT (guessing this is the new one), Chicken run, Calendar Girls, Babe, Seabiscuit.. nothing really great on except Pirates of the carribbean but i think most people will have seen that along with the second one by now, and its on boxing day not even xmas day which i think is stupid!

i am however looking forward to some of the new christmas specials:
Dr Who - Runaway bride
My family
Little Britain abroad
Vicar of dibley

Will also be watching BBC's drama adaptation of Dracula with Marc Warren, & probably Wind in the Willows with Matt Lucas.. and most likely Ruby in the Smoke with Billie Piper.

Itv on Christmas day are showing The Grinch, the first harry potter & an xmas special of Creature comforts.

i dont think it looks all bad.
only 60% well thats not bad!!!
who wants to watch tv over christmas anyway surely you would be haveing fun with family and friends. merry christmas all
Not everyone is fortunate to have family to spend Xmas with be they young or elderly. The tv is the only company a lot of people have.
yes you are quite right beejay I really didn't mean to offend anyone that is alone over christmas and am truely sorry.
A long as the Great Escape is onI willbe happy.

The rest of the time I will spend in the pub
