My two year old daughter has just vommited in her bed and is crying. I think she has an upset tummy. Will Calpol help her feel a bit better, and if it will how do i measure out 5ml.
Any suggestions would be most gratefully recieved .
This would happen when her mum has gone for a xmas works night out. So i dont want to ring her and spoil her night.
Thanks in anticipation, From a worried worried Gasman.

have you rung NHS direct and asked thier advice?

here is the web site?

i hope she gets better for christmas!!
Hi gasman, Calpol is good for relieving a temperature rather than helping with vomiting. The danger of vomiting is dehydration so you would be better off encouraging her to have some water. Can you take a temperature? I have a one yr old and the best way is with a digital thermometer under the armpit. For future reference, 5ml is a teaspoonful but try and get the proper plastic teaspoons from the pharmacy. I find with little ones that a plastic syringe also from the chemist (25p) is better for administering medication as it just goes straight in as opposed to all over their pyjamas! Upset tummies tend to go away quite quickly but if you are worried at all, take her to the docs in the morning. Good luck! x
5 ml is a teaspoon's worth but Calpol doesn't seem to be the right thing. Here's their advice:

http://www.calpol.co.uk/en/article.asp?id=109# tummyupset

She needs to get fluids down.

However, if you're concerned or she's vomiting a lot (which according to Mirriam Stoppard's Baby and Child Heathcare is more than 6 hours) you need to get proper medical advice. NHS Direct might be a good first port of call: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/index.aspx

It's probably just 'one of those things' but please don't rely on answerbanker's responses - you've no idea who we are, or how qualified. You should speak to a proper medical practicioner if you're really worried.

Hope everything's okay.

When our baby was young it vomited a lot. We found out later it was due to 2 things:
1. he was allergic to cows milk
2. the hole in the teat was too large

does this ring any bells?

Have spoken with NHS and they dont seem worried . I have taken her temp and it is 36.3*C. I think that is OK. She is sipping a bottle of water and has calmed down . She is sat on my lap as i type and cuddling me :o). think i just panic'ed sorry for the alarm caused. and many Thanks everyone.. Merry Christmas to all.
hugs and a drink of water might sort it out. Does she still take a bottle? If she does, mild juice or warm water might get her to sleep.
Hi, sorry to hear your little one is feeling poorly : ( there is so much going about just now, the little girl l look after has a throat infection that keeps making her sick as nothing can go down properly, calpol doesn't really work as said by everyone but if you give her it there should be a spoon with the bottle, cooled boiled water is the best thing when the tummy is upset and loads of cuddles : ) but if your at all worried phone the a doctor, even to put your mind at rest.
sick children are mostly like sick adults - their bodies don't like something they've encountered and are trying throw it out and it's generally better to let them get on with it. So the advice you've got here is pretty good. Keep NHS Direct's number around, though; it's always good to get professional advice, especially for kids.
Gasman . how considerate are you ?!
Glad you have got the advice you need - and that little gasgirl has settled now.
You can never be too careful with kids - they deteriorate so much quicker than adults. Voice of experience as I had to resusitate my son aged 18 mths. Not something I would wish upon any one.
Hope you get a good nights sleep ( without worry).
Happy Christmas x
How about trying pepto bismol if you've got it. It usually workd for me
