It's just occurred to me that a better answer (than DRAINPIPE TROUSERS) might be POLYTHENE TROUSERS? Hope I'm not too late!

Thanks for the comment about the 'magic touch' crofter. I now realise what went wrong with my December efforts. My local amateur dramatic group borrowed my magic wand for this year�s pantomime, and my guesses went downhill from there :-)
