The yellow lines must be unbroken i.e. continuous. If the lines are broken, whether by road repair or other reason, then you do not commit the offence. Take a photograph and employ the services of a solicitor. Anyone is entitled to 15 mins/30 mins free advice from any solicitor on what they call the green form scheme.
Thanks, I am preparing a letter now, want it to look like I know my rights, never had a ticket before, (been close sometimes though) been driving for 24 years as well.
The law is pedantic in that it only recognises double yellow lines only with a bar at the end of them - if it is missing that is not a double yellow line in law and so your solictor will be able to get you off the hook - but for crying out loud - they are there for a reason.
Since the lines were put down many years ago the street has been changed to a dead end & part pedestrianised, there is no traffic flow as it only leads to 4 shops in a small street, I was parked at the very end before the road hit the pedestrain pavement.
