a RONNIE BARKER is Cockney rhyming slang for a MARKER PEN. That may be what your answer is?
Of course though, it could also be a BONNIE PARKER since you get Parker pens.
Rambler , Are you monitoring this thread? Were any of these answers any use to you? Your feedback is important to us if we are to give more precise answers to questions.
My friends are also stuck on this one. Have been trying for ages but can't find any reference to the smuggling of messages by ball point pen. Does it mean Northern Ireland or Southern Ireland, recent troubles or going back to 1916 era? Take your pick. Will probably accept Ronnie Barker as a good compromise.

I haven't decided finally - Ronnie Barker sounds good, because of the pison connection, but I haven't found any reference on Google. All suggestions appreciated though.
