dont forget hybrids,
i think its more a matter of cost/usage
what can you afford
how often would you use it
a dvd sounds easier just remove disc & plonk it in a dvd player,
others have to be connected to the tv or computer via cables.
as for better, there is a vast choice of specifications
?? X optical zoom
???? X digital zoom
memory cards
still photos options - not all have this!
etc etc,
everbody has their own ideas of what is better,
go round the sales after Christmas have a gander at all offers, dont be rushed!!

I have been using a digital camcorder for several years now as well as belonging to a local camcorder club. Most of the members' camcorders use a MiniDV tape, an hours recording on standard play and an hour and a half on long play. If you are going to transfer and perhaps do some basic editing from your camcorder to VHS tape or to a digital recorder, you will want to use cables of some sort. Find someone locally you trust to help you make the right choice. Some shop assistants may not be prepared or able to give that advice.
