Sorry for hijacking your thread - my old car comes up on there and it was an insurance write off. Does this mean it wasn't scrapped and someone has it?
Insurance company repairs have to be done to standard with all new parts and if the estimate is more than 60% of it's value it's most often written off.
It's beyond economic repair.
That still leaves quite a bit of scope for someone to do a quite satisfactory repair and make it worth while.
as jake points out you can see if they are still on the road, but you cant find out who the owners are etc.as for written off cars.as long as they are repaired and pass the vosa vic test, then they can be put back on the road.
This is untrue - I have checked on old reg plates that my Dad owned 30 + years ago and they STILL come up trumps which leads me to believe that this is just a database of ALL vehicles (scrapped & still on-the-road)
